So I have never heard of “the big five” before, and if you haven’t please let me explain. Years ago game hunters needed to bag the big 5. This was a term I never heard of until I started researching Africa. The big 5 consists of: lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and African buffalo. These animals are rare and if an individual encounters one they are very lucky. I was able to see all five in 2 days!
Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge located in South Africa is a private game reserve that is geographically integrated with Kruger National Park. It is only because of these reserves and parks that poachers and hunters are stopped, and these magnificent animals still exist. Crossroads National Park became a no hunting zone in 1898 and a national Park in 1926. It is one of the largest nature conservation parks in the world. Being 20,000 sq kilometers, Making it roughly the same size as Israel!
I can’t wait to show you more!

I have to say that the Sabi Sand was an experience of a lifetime. To see all the amazing animals in their own habitat, felt like we weren’t even there.
The guides and trackers were engulfed in their work every morning and afternoon. It was a mission to show and teach us about the world they live in. Their dedication and love shine throughout the entire establishment. Every moment of every day they were at our service. I miss them already…
There’s so many things that were monumental about my trip at the Sabi Sands. Being able to see the almost extinct African dog and following a mother to her den of pups which were frolicking in the grass while waiting for their dinner. To the beautiful leopard I came to know and fell in love with, she was so beautiful.
Lastly, being able to see the “big 5” in two days, that alone was a feat within itself.
I have seen so much on this trip already and we’ve only just begun!
So many more places to go!
